ICDL US News
13/05/10 ICDL US participated in the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) Annual Conference, Albuquerque, New Mexico

2nd – 5th May

The theme of this year’s conference was: “Soaring to New Heights with Workforce Development”. As well as being exhibitors at the conference, the ICDL US team partook in key skills focused sessions on unemployed and disadvantaged youth during the conference The conference provided a useful opportunity to promote awareness among workforce development professionals of the potential role of ICDL’s certification in meeting employers’ needs and as a tool in securing employment. ICDL US sees Workforce Development as a key sector of activity in the US.

The ICDL US delegation felt that, while Workforce Development is generally quite advanced in the US, there was still a significant lack of awareness  of the  benefits  of ICT training and certification and its application to a broad spectrum of jobs.

Dr. Bob Dove of W D & E Consulting, an approved ICDL Reseller located in Pittsburgh, attended the pre-conference session “Workforce Development for People with Criminal Histories”.  At this, Dr. Dove shared his experience as an ICDL accreditation agent for the Bureau of Correction Education, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, which currently has 23 prisons as ICDL accredited test centers. For more information about the conference, and about ICDL US, please contact Cora Landy: cora.landy@ecdl.org

Tiger Initiative
United States, Tiger Initiative recognises the International Computer Driving License (ICDL)
The Technology Informatics Guiding Educational Reform (TIGER) Initiative aims to enable practicing nurses and nursing students to fully engage in the unfolding digital electronic era in healthcare.  The purpose of the initiative is to identify information/knowledge management best practices and effective technology capabilities for nurses.  TIGER's goal is to create and disseminate action plans that can be duplicated within nursing and other multidisciplinary healthcare training and workplace settings in the United States.  The Tiger Initiatives 2009 “Collaborating to Integrate Informatics into Nursing Practice and Education” report identifies the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) as meeting the requirements of nursing professionals needing to gain a basic computer literacy level.

The TIGER Initiative is working to catalyze a dynamic, sustainable, and productive relationship between the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI), with its 20 nursing informatics professional societies, and the major nursing organizations including the American Nurses Association (ANA), the Association of Nurse Executives (AONE), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and others which collectively represent over 2,000,000 nurses.
